Malaysia Aims for 3.2 Million Muslim Tourists in 2023: A Vision for Growth

Malaysia is currently setting its sights on an ambitious target of welcoming 3.2 million Muslim tourists in 2023, a notable increase from the 2.1 million visitors recorded in the previous year. The announcement was made by Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture in Malaysia.

This figure constitutes a significant 20% of the overall goal of 16.1 million foreign tourists expected to visit the country this year. The Deputy Minister conveyed this during the launch of the 2023 Islamic Tourism Month in Ipoh, located in the northwestern state of Perak, on August 18.

The substantial increase reflects the fruitful collaboration among various stakeholders, aligning with the primary strategy outlined in the National Tourism Policy 2020 – 2030. Islamic Tourism Month holds immense potential to become a pivotal event for Malaysia, drawing Muslim tourists from both the region and beyond, further bolstering the nation’s tourism industry. Be it a Bukit Bintang hotel, such as the modern Travelodge Bukit Bintang or a property in Kuala Lumpur, the boutique and luxurious properties in Malaysia can look forward to a significant amount of Muslim guests.
