With the purpose of building stronger trade relations, the Maldives – Bangladesh Trade and Tourism Summit – 2016 was recently held in the Maldivian capital, Male. The summit seeks to increase the bilateral relationship between the two nations in the fields of tourism and trade. The island nation, internationally recognised for Maldives luxury hotel and resorts, like the chic COMO Cocoa Island, The Maldives amongst others, is home to a vast number of Bangladesh migrant workers. The Bangladeshi foreign ministry has requested the Maldivian government to remove trade barriers and open direct shipping links between the two nations. According to reports, agreements concerning the healthcare and medical sectors have also been signed. This comes after the Maldives mission in Dhaka was recently reopened after closure due to budget restrictions.
