Maldives Continues to Record Rise in Tourists – Travellers from China Top Arrivals

The Maldives continues to bask in the sunshine of a booming tourism industry. As of 5th March 2024, the country had welcomed a staggering 443,128 visitors this year, according to the Maldives Ministry of Tourism. Significantly, this figure was a 15.9% increase when compared with the arrivals figure from the same period in 2023. This impressive number indicates a strong start to 2024 and bodes well as the nation looks to register 2.3 million tourists this year.

The surge in arrivals is driven in part by the rise of China which has become the leading source market. With a significant portion of visitors hailing from China, the country has witnessed a strategic shift in tourist demographics. This can be attributed to factors like the resumption of direct flights between the two nations and targeted marketing campaigns. Be it for a stay at an overwater or beach villa, Maldives offers unforgettable getaways at private island resorts which remain a popular choice for travellers. These include properties like Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives which continue to attract visitors from around the world, helping to boost tourism as well.
