Maldives Exceed Pre-pandemic level Tourist Arrivals – Hope on the Horizon!

The Maldives has been a number one travel destination in the pre-pandemic stage; however, the island’s tourism was heavily impacted by COVID-19. Today, it is recording record high numbers of tourist arrivals after the travel restrictions were lifted. In July, the numbers had a 33.9% increase compared to the last year.

India is one of the major tourist markets for the Maldives, summing up to 14.5% of the total arrivals, followed by the United Kingdom with 11.6%. One of the largest source markets before the pandemic was China, which is still not contributing to the arrivals in the Maldives due to the heavy travel policies implemented by the Chinese government. With the arrivals going up, many accommodations on the island are experiencing higher demand, including Embudu Village, an elegant and renowned beach resort in Maldives.
