In keeping with the growing number of tourist arrivals in 2019, the Maldives is setting its sights on reaching two million arrivals in 2020. This is according to a recent article published online by Indian travel trade magazine, Travel Trends Today, which was quoting FathimathRaheel, the Director at Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation. A key contributor to the increased growth in 2019, was the influx of Indian tourists which made up close to 10% of the visitor share.
In 2019, the country achieved its target of 1.5 million tourist arrivals in November itself, with the year-end total exceeding 1.7 million. In the Maldives, all inclusive resorts including the likes of VARU by Atmosphere as well as budget guesthouses continue to draw travellers from around the world; it is hoped that with more focus on digital and social media promotions, these numbers will increase to help achieve the two million arrivals target.
