Maldives Independence Day This Month – A Time For Celebration

The Independence Day of the Maldives falls on 26th July and is a time of commemorating the country’s freedom. The main Independence Day celebrations are centred in and around Republic Square which can be found in the capital Male. Those staying at Maldives island resorts including the likes of Dhigali Maldives can plan an excursion here in order to witness the festivities.

Marking its freedom from British rule in 1965, the Maldives Independence Day celebration features colourful parades and processions including those of the National Cadet Corps and the National Security Services. School children and traditional dancers also participate in this grand event that is attended by the country’s Presidents as well as various foreign dignitaries. It is a time that all citizens of the Maldives come together to celebrate as one.
