Maldives Popular for Post-COVID-19 Getaways

Surge in Arrivals as Year Ends

Giving the local tourism industry a much-needed lift, arrivals to the Maldives surged during the latter part of 2020. Amongst the notable achievements was that in December 2020, the 100,000th tourist was welcomed following July’s reopening of international borders in the Maldives. Villas at private island resorts the likes of Baros Maldives continue to be a popular choice for holidaymakers as they enjoy the best the country has to offer.

From the arrivals last year, Russia came in as one of the leading source markets; travellers from countries such as India, the United Kingdom, the USA and the United Arab Emirates also made up a significant number. Global media initiatives, specific B2B and B2C campaigns and advertising on reputed TV broadcasters such as CNN are amongst the many factors that contributed to the rise in tourist arrivals.
