Maldives Receives First Tactical Drones: Keeping the Island Destination Secure
The Maldives’ defence industry recently received its first shipment of tactical drones supplied by Turkey, which will now be used to help with patrolling the Indian Ocean around the archipelago, a task that was formerly carried out with help from India and Sri Lanka.
The new shipment of drones will now provide better awareness and surveillance capabilities for the Maldives National Defence Force, which can be useful for non-traditional operations like search and rescue efforts and data collection on commercial activities at sea.
Additionally, the Maldives remains focused on protecting its resources as a popular tourism destination. This is because the tourism industry is a significant contributor to the country’s economy, with international travellers arriving to enjoy the local attractions, natural beauty and many a luxury resort in Maldives including the likes of the luxurious private island resort Kuda Villingili.
