Maldives Remove Travel Restrictions on International Tourists – An Attempt to Boost the Tourism Industry

It has been confirmed by the government of the Maldives that they no longer require their international tourists to produce a negative PCR test upon entering the country. According to the country’s Ministry of Health, the “health emergency” status that was declared by the country two years previously has also been lifted. Wearing mask has now been made optional; thus, tourists holidaying at Maldives island resorts the likes of Huvafen Fushi Maldives can enjoy their vacation without the hindrance of wearing masks. However, those who visit hospitals and health care centres are still advised to wear masks.

These decisions have come after the country was able to effectively manage the impact of the coronavirus spread by vaccinating 68% of its population. The Maldives is currently focusing on boosting its tourism industry, whose revenues account for around 70 per cent of the country’s GDP.
