Sri Lanka has planned to allocate a budget of $56 million to promote tourism in its main source countries during the second quarter of 2022. According to Prasanna Ranatunga, the Minister of Tourism, the targeted source countries include India, Britain, China, Russia. He also stated that they have an ambitious plan in place to attract tourists to the country this year. The Minister also said that activities to promote the country as a tourist destination will be carried out in other countries and that plans are in place to get tourists as groups.
With a five-year global action plan to promote tourism in place, Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Tourism is in the process of choosing an advertising firm, an event management firm, and a digital partner to execute the project. By February 2022, over 150,000 tourists have arrived in Sri Lanka. Beach hotels the likes of Maalu Maalu are top contenders for hosting tourists.
