Maldives Reopens: How Travelling to the Maldives Feels Now – An Escape from the Pandemic

In July last year, the Maldives reopened its borders for all international tourists after several months of lockdown. Initially, permission was only given to hotels and luxury resorts such as Atmosphere Kanifushi. Then, the country allowed the guesthouses in inhabited islands and the greater Male to gradually reopen its doors for tourism as well. Due to these careful measures, the Maldives was able to welcome tourists into its stunning midst; by the 17th of February, the country recorded 147,744 tourists for 2021. The trend continued further, recording 109,585 tourist arrivals in March.

At present, travelling to the Maldives can be attributed to an escape – an escape from the pandemic. Holidaymakers can look forward to following a ‘no-mask’ policy at their selected Maldives luxury resort. This is possible due to new health procedures that are in place for those who are visiting the islands, which have been implemented to ensure that visitors can enjoy a safe trip to the best of their capability.
