The Maldives was honoured with the prestigious ‘World’s Leading Destination’ award at the World Travel Awards for the fifth consecutive year. The accolade, received by Minister of Tourism Ibrahim Faisal in Mérida, Portugal, cemented the Maldives’ reputation as a global tourism leader. Additionally, the country earned the title of ‘World’s Leading Green Destination,’ highlighting its commitment to sustainable travel.
Earlier in the year, the Maldives swept multiple awards in the Indian Ocean category, including Leading Destination, Honeymoon Destination, Green Destination, and Dive Destination. The nation’s luxurious beach villas in Maldives, such as those offered by Amilla Maldives, played a significant role in attracting global travellers. Faisal attributed the achievements to the collective efforts of the tourism industry, noting that these awards bolster the Maldives’ position as a top travel destination worldwide.
