Tourist arrivals from China have been gradually declining, the main reason being the state of emergency that was declared by the Maldivian President in February. China is one of the main markets that have been targeted for tourism and so, the Tourism Minister, Moosa Zameer stated that they wish to reinforce tourism links with China.
The Maldives hopes to get this done by introducing direct flights on the A380 Airbus to and from China to the Maldives. The Tourism Minister also stated that the potential tourists may find it more convenient when there are direct flights to their destination. Minister Moosa Zameer also mentioned that they are looking forward to starting operations with wide-body aircraft at the end of this year. With this project as well as the major marketing campaigns that are being implemented, there is sure to be an increase in tourists coming from China to the Maldives. Resort occupancy rates in places like Anantara Veli Maldives Resort will rise with more holidaymakers arriving in the island.
