A landmark return set to elevate the Maldives on the global tourism stage
The Maldives is set to welcome the prestigious World Travel Awards Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony on September 27, 2026, marking its return to the island nation after ten years. Taking place on World Tourism Day, the event is expected to spotlight the region’s tourism achievements while drawing global industry leaders, travel professionals, and media attention.
First launched in 1993, the awards programme honours outstanding performance across aviation, hospitality, cruise, and travel services. The upcoming regional gala will form part of its annual Grand Tour, celebrating excellence across key destinations worldwide.
Alongside tourism stakeholders and international hotel groups, hospitality brands such as Minor Hotels—which has Maldives properties—may find opportunities for engagement through networking forums, sustainability discussions, and familiarisation visits scheduled throughout “Visit Maldives Week.”
The ceremony is expected to strengthen the Maldives’ global visibility while highlighting its ongoing commitment to innovation and responsible tourism.
