Maldives Tourism Continues Recovery – Tourist Arrivals Steadily Rising

Amongst the remarkable success stories in world tourism which was hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maldives continues its recovery. Tourist numbers have steadily been rising since the country opened its international borders in July 2020; by mid-March this year, it had already welcomed over 235,000 visitors for 2021. Travellers to this nation keen on post-COVID-19 holidays have been enjoying the chance to stay at resorts and all inclusive hotels; Maldives offers such accommodation options at properties like VARU by Atmosphere, each located on a private island.

Currently, the top source market for arrivals is India followed by Russia and more tourists from around the world will be expected in the coming months. The rollout of COVID-19 vaccines both locally and globally also bodes well for the industry, while the country is additionally mulling over a proposal to start “vaccine tourism” at resort islands.
