Maldives Tourism Continues to Recover – Arrival Numbers on the Increase

Billed as the “biggest 2020 international tourism success story” by CNN Travel on its website, the south Asian nation of Maldives is seeing an increasing number of tourists arriving for holidays. The country reopened its borders in July 2020 with travellers getting the chance of staying at a private island luxury resort in Maldives. Such accommodation options at properties such as Heritance Aarah continue to be a popular choice and provide safe stays in a country that does not require mandatory quarantine for tourists.

By the end of 2020, the Maldives had recorded 555,494 visitors exceeding the predicted number of 500,000. This trend of increasing arrivals has been seen in 2021 as well; as reported online by Xinhuanet on 22nd March 2021, the country had already reached over 250,000 tourist arrivals from 1st January to 19th March this year. It bodes well for the industry which is expecting to reach 1.5 million arrivals by the end of 2021.
