Maldives tourism passes one million mark – Only 300,000 more to reach the target

The stunning islands of Maldives recently passed the one million mark of foreign travellers. According to the latest tourism statistics, there was a six percent hike since the previous year in arrivals to the country. By the end of October, there was a record of 125,995 tourist arrivals to the islands. There was predominantly a 10.7 percent hike from the European market, with German travellers at the top of the list, followed by Italy and Russia. It was also the American market has been steadily growing and will reach just over 30,000 by the end of the year. Compared to the previous years, there was a decline in Chinese tourists and a growth of Indian tourists to the Maldives. It has been stated that Maldives is well on its way of reaching its set target of 1.3 million tourists by the end of 2017.
