Maldives Tourism Thrives with Visa-Free Policy: A Tropical Favourite for Chinese Tourists
The Maldives continues to cement its reputation as a top tourist destination with arrival numbers growing steadily in 2024 owing to its visa-free policy. In particular, the Maldives has become a favoured destination for Chinese tourists, with 87,566 visitors arriving from China as of May 6th 2024. Apart from China, other notable markets for Maldives tourism include Russia, the UK, Italy, Germany and India.
By March 2024 the Maldives welcomed over 600,000 tourists, which was a significant milestone for the industry. The month of March alone brought in 194,227 arrivals which was the highest recorded number in a single month. A great deal of visitor arrivals were prompted by the nation’s visa-free policy that grants a free 30-day visitor visa to tourists with the required travel documents.
In addition to this, the island nation has further improved its reputation over the years by offering several luxury hotels and resorts such as the Anantara Dhigu Maldives Resort which is a popular Maldives beach villa that provides luxury accommodations for families.
