The tourism industry in Maldives has cause to be optimistic for a record-breaking year ahead as the country has already seen an increase in arrivals. By the 13th of January 2024, this Indian Ocean nation had recorded 76,979 arrivals which was a 10% increase when compared with figures from the same period in 2023. Helping to attract more tourists to the Maldives, resort promotion options at private island properties like OBLU SELECT Lobigili have proven to be popular amongst travellers.
Considering the first 13 days of the year, tourists from Russia made up the leading source market followed by Italy, India, the United Kingdom, and Germany respectively. Russia was the second leading source market for tourism in 2023 only behind India and will no doubt be an important contributor to arrival numbers this year as well. While the Maldives was able to meet its year-end target last year of welcoming 1.8 million tourists, it has set its sights even higher for 2024 as it plans to record 2 million arrivals.
