Maldives Whale Shark Festival 2015 – Fostering Community Conservation

An event that looks to highlight the need to conserve and protect whale sharks, the Maldives Whale Shark Festival is set to take place this year as well. The 2015 edition is scheduled for August and will feature a range of activities and programmes that will involve community participation as well. The Maldives Whale Shark Festival 2015 which is organised b the Maldives Whale Shark Research Programme (MWSRP) will focus on conservation through community involvement and look to highlight the need for conservation initiatives in the Maldives as well as the Indian Ocean where these marine species can be found. Among some of the events that have been organised for this festival in the past include a special parade, displays of local handicrafts and performances of traditional Maldivian drumming.
