As the holy month of Ramadan approaches, all Muslims in the Maldives are preparing for a month long of fasting and blessings in May. Ramadan is the 9th month in the Islamic calendar where Muslims around the world devote themselves to prayer and religious activities. The month requires Muslims to observe fasts for 30 days from sunrise to sunset and the last week of that month is considered to be the holiest as it is said that the Quran’s first verses were revealed to the holy prophet Muhammad during this time.
The first day of this holy month is a public holiday in the Maldives and normally all businesses are closed as well. However, tourists travelling to the Maldives during this time do not have to worry as resorts such as the Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas amongst many others, qualifies as a luxury resort in Maldives and will surely be open to serve.
