Mastercard & Octopus Team Up: Facilitates Travel Payments in Hong Kong

Mastercard and Octopus Cards (Octopus), operators of the Octopus e-money cards and solutions, have collaborated to offer a more convenient way for inbound travellers to Hong Kong to enjoy the benefits of Octopus. By integrating Mastercard as the payment option in the Octopus App for Tourists, Mastercard cardholders can seamlessly top up Mobile Octopus on their iPhone or Apple Watch.

This integration enhances the visitor experience by enabling Octopus contactless payments across a wide array of activities including transportation, dining, entertainment, shopping, and more. Dennis Chang, Executive Vice President and Division President, of Greater China, Mastercard, emphasized the partnership’s significance, stating it allows travelers to immerse themselves in the iconic local experience of Hong Kong’s Octopus. Tim Ying, CEO of Octopus, highlighted the simplicity and security of the payment system, ensuring visitors enjoy the same cashless convenience as locals. Mastercard’s Managing Director for Hong Kong & Macau, Helena Chen, emphasized the partnership’s benefits for both travellers and local businesses, facilitating seamless transactions and fostering growth opportunities. Visitors will find it increasingly easier to enjoy their stay and exploration, with a stay at a Kowloon hotel in Hong Kong the likes of Park Hotel Hong Kong being much more streamlined with contactless payment schemes.
