August 31 marks Merdeka Day (Merdeka’ means ‘independent’) Malaysia’s Independence Day which is celebrated with a magnificent event with different themes held during the month. A six-day fireworks and a musical performance called ‘Pyrobeat’ kicks off the celebrations on the 30th; and then the annual Merdeka Day Parade, one of the most prominent events, and is held on the morning of August 31 at Dataran Merdeka to mark and celebrate the country’s developments. To get the best view of the parade, it’s advised to show up by 7:00am, so staying at one of the hotels closer to the venue such as the Berjaya Times Square Hotel for instance, is a good idea. Enjoy the morning and then head over to one of the Restaurants Bukit Bintang has to offer for a delicious Malaysian breakfast.
