The Mid-Autumn Festival that takes place in Phan Thiet is known to be one of the most vibrant festivals in Vietnam. This annual event is scheduled according to the lunar calendar and this year, it was held in September. The festival took place at the Nguyen Tat Thanh Square by the main streets of the city of Phan Thiet.
Children from about 33 primary and secondary schools in the area participated in the entertainment for the evening. Each school brought along a giant float and hundreds of smaller lanterns that were designed according to the theme of the occasion. The opening ceremony for the festival consisted of children performing various arts, the introduction of participants and the reading of the letter from the President of Vietnam. Later the leader of Bin Thuan Province gifted the children to the beat of drums. With many a Mui Ne resort around, such as Anantara Mui Ne Resort, people from far and wide were able to come and witness the event.
