The renowned local news provider Daily FT Online recently reported that the Minister of Wildlife in Sri Lanka has decided to reverse the decision to forbid safaris into Wilpattu National Park due to the ongoing drought. The report further revealed that this decision was arrived at after consulting with the Sri Lanka Association of Inbound Tour Operators (SLAITO) and the Minister of Tourism. Among the many things to do in Sri Lanka, a wildlife safari is an exciting experience favoured by locals and tourists alike.
Hence, the outcome of the revoked decision is expected to benefit the private and public sector and the Sri Lankan economy. A great way to travel to areas in and around these national parks is by taking a domestic flight offered by such companies as Cinnamon Air. The team of specialists appointed by the Department of Wildlife including the representatives from the Tourism Department and the SLAITO decided to open the park only for the morning safaris bearing in mind that the park retains only 40% to 50% of water. The report reveals that the park would be opened for evening safaris as the situation improves over time.
