The Ministry of Tourism and Sports (MOTS) has planned in launching tourism development zones in five groups of provinces and is to review the national tourism policy. The tourism ministry is currently holding discussions with the National Tourism Policy Committee to establish the tourism strategic plan. Lanna Civilisation tourism sector will be the first group for tourism to be developed in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun and Lampang provinces. The second group will be the active beach tourism sector, in Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces. Third group selected for development is the Southern-Isan Civilisation tourism sector in Nakhon, Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces. Royal Coast tourism sector is also under the development plan with Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon and Ranong provinces targeted. Finally the fifth group will be the Andaman sector in Krabi, Phang Nga, Phuket, Trang and Satun provinces.

The existing tourism roadmap will come under scrutiny to decide whether it requires changes to be made or needs to be completely rewritten. This project is expected to begin next year. With this new initiative of tourism development in provinces such as Trang, most travel accommodation locations including Anantara Sikao Thailand Resort & Spa, a reputed Trang Resort stand a chance to reap more benefits by being exposed to the outside world.
