China and Thailand have taken a significant step towards boosting tourism by implementing a visa-free agreement, effective immediately. Under this new policy, citizens from both countries can enjoy visa-free entry and stay for up to 30 days per visit. The agreement allows for multiple entries within a six-month period, with a total stay not exceeding 90 days. This move has already sparked a surge in travel interest, particularly among Thai visitors to China, with bookings tripling on travel platforms compared to the previous year. Popular destinations in China for Thai tourists include Shanghai, Guangzhou, Kunming, and Beijing, indicating a promising outlook for both countries’ tourism sectors. China’s resurgence as Thailand’s leading source of foreign tourists who seek unique experiences and places the country has to offer such as Phuket Luxury Beach Resorts and other hotels like SAii Laguna Phuket, with over 1.1 million arrivals in the first two months of 2024, underscores the potential impact of this agreement. Thailand aims to capitalize on this momentum by targeting 8 million Chinese tourists this year, doubling the number from 2023 and reaffirming its position as a premier travel destination in the region.
