Naladhu Maldives Releases 69 Green Turtles – Conservation in Action

A culmination of what began as a Green Turtle nesting on the island of Velighandu Huraa, 69 Green Turtle hatchlings were released under the watchful eye of those at Naladhu Maldives in April 2015. It all began on March 6th when a female Green Turtle made her way along Naladhu beach on a full moon night to a spot on the island where she dug a hole, laid her eggs, buried them and went back to sea. One of the leading Maldives island resorts when it comes to getting involved in marine conservation, Naladhu Maldives with the assistance of Hamid Rad, the resident Marine Biologist of neighbouring Anantara Dhigu Resort & Spa, got involved in protecting these eggs by constructing a cage around them. On April 28th at 7:30 am, after 53 days, the baby hatchlings began to immerge with only two eggs remaining unhatched. After being kept under observation for a day, the hatchlings were released at dusk from their nesting site, as they made their way to the ocean and the brave new world that awaited them.
