National Day 2016- celebrating the 68th Independence Day

Sri Lanka was granted peace from the British on the 4th of February, 1964 and has been a democratic nation ever since. Every year the country celebrates their victory and freedom in grand style in Colombo and other parts of the island. Declared a national holiday, the Independence Day celebrations include flag-hoisting ceremony, parades, dances and other performances. The main ceremony in Colombo is attended by the president and features a display of the finest from armed forces and selected schools in the nation showing the unity among cultures.
