In order to help financially-hit workers in the food and beverage and hospitality sectors, the Park Hotel Group joined with YMCA of Singapore to launch a special relief fund in August. The Singapore-based hotel chain which is amongst Asia Pacific’s best hospitality groups made an initial contribution of S$500,000 to the “Uplift Fund” and this donation has been equally matched by its employees as well. It is hoped that a total of S$3 million will be raised for this worthy cause.
Those in the food and beverage and hospitality sectors who have lost their jobs or have incurred a loss of at least 30% of their income will be eligible to receive financial relief from this fund; their household income will also be taken into consideration (of at least three family members). Joining this initiative is the home-services company known as Helpling which pledged to train and hire 1,000 workers from these two sectors.
