Niseko to Host 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Major Boost for Cycling Tourism

Global cycling meets alpine adventure in Japan’s premier mountain destination

Japan’s Hokkaido region is set to welcome the world’s cycling community as Niseko prepares to host the 2026 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships from 26–30 August 2026. The announcement by the Union Cycliste Internationale confirms the destination’s growing reputation as a premier venue for international sporting events.

Niseko already has strong experience hosting large-scale cycling competitions through the Niseko Classic, which has been part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series since 2016. The championship schedule will include a time trial on Thursday, a team relay on Friday, and the main gran fondo race on Sunday. Participants will compete across different distances, including a challenging 150 km course and a shorter 80 km route for older categories.
