Following a hard hit 2020 for tourism due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Lanka is slowly but surely seeing the industry recover. This is largely due to the county reopening its international borders in January 2021 with tourists having to stay within a secure bio bubble at selected Safe and Secure Level 1 accommodation providers. This included certain properties of brands like Heritance Hotels & Resorts where travellers could move freely as well as visit designated attractions and enjoy things to do in Sri Lanka under the given guidelines.
This has resulted in an increase of tourists as well; as reported online by TTG Asia on 2nd March 2021, the country saw a rise in arrivals in February over January this year. In March, the country also introduced new guidelines whereby tourists who had received the COVID-19 vaccine had to spend reduced time at a designated hotel further increasing the appeal of travelling here.
