Oman Emerges as Top Performer in Middle East and Africa Tourism Recovery

In a recent report released by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), international tourism is poised to make a full recovery to pre-pandemic levels by the close of 2024, signalling a remarkable rebound for the global tourism industry.

The report underscores the resilience demonstrated by the tourism sector, with positive ripple effects observed on economies, job creation, and global opportunities. Notably, Oman has emerged as a standout performer in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region, exhibiting robust growth in international tourist arrivals for the period spanning January to December 2023.

According to UNWTO data, Oman experienced a notable 14% increase in international tourist arrivals to resorts in Oman during this period such as Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019. This achievement is particularly commendable amidst the challenges faced by the global tourism landscape. The report attributes Oman’s success to its effective pandemic containment measures and strategic tourism recovery initiatives.
