One Millionth Tourist Welcomed in Sri Lanka – Country Set to Reach 1.5M for 2023

Last month, Sri Lanka reached a significant tourism milestone for the year when it welcomed its one-millionth international visitor in 2023. This momentous occasion took place on 26th September when Alex Mazkov, a Russian national, arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport on an Oman Airlines flight. To mark this event, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau hosted a special welcome ceremony for Mazkov and his family who were garlanded and presented with souvenirs.

Interestingly, this was the first time since 2019 that the country reached one million tourists within a year, and the island looks set to meet its 2023 target of recording 1.5 million arrivals. Travellers the world over are continuing to enjoy holidays here on stays at luxury hotels in Sri Lanka; these include properties of Amaya Resorts & Spas at key destinations such as Pasikudah, Kandy and Dambulla which offer beachside bliss, mountain getaways and cultural adventures respectively.
