Over 600 Tourist Facilities Opened in the Maldives – Promising Signs of Growth

By February 2021, over 600 tourist facilities were operational in the Maldives which was a positive sign for the tourism industry which has seen a steady growth of arrivals. Since the country removed its border restrictions in July last year, there has been a systematic opening of island resorts and five-star hotels in Maldives including properties like Adaaran Select Hudhuran Fushi; additionally, many guesthouses and safari operators have resumed as well and are all operating under strict health and hygiene protocols.

Due to the early COVID-19 vaccination programme in the Maldives, the country has even upgraded its initial projection of 1 million tourist arrivals for the year to 1.5 million. In an added development, TTG Asia reported on its website on 10th March 2021 that the government was also mulling over the prospect of beginning “vaccine tourism” to further attract travellers in the future.
