Thousands of running enthusiasts from gathered at Nathon Pier in the island of Koh Samui on the 10 of June 2017 to take part in the Half Marathon which was organized by the Bangkok Airways. The opening ceremony of the event was presided over by Poonsak Soponprathumarak, Senior Deputy District Chief of Koh Samui. The people who participated in the event also include tourists who were lodged in Koh Samui resorts and hotels like Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort.
The Half marathon was the third event out of the 7 planned events for the Bangkok Airways Boutique Series 2018 and the sole purpose of this event was to promote tourism and to encourage people to embrace a healthy lifestyle. As part of the event, 50 pairs of running shoes were donated to the students of Wat Jang School and Ban Angthong School by the runners.
