Over US$950m Investments Drawn by Sri Lanka Tourism – Positive Signs Despite the Pandemic

As mentioned by the SLTDA or Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, the country’s tourism sector has attracted more than US$950 million worth of investments from March 2020 to June 2021; this was highlighted on the ColomboPage news website on 10th August 2021 which also quoted Kimarli Fernando, the Sri Lanka Tourism Chairperson, who said that this showed the “…immense potential inherent to the local tourism sector”. The SLTDA further went on to reveal that at the time, a total of 64 project proposals had been received, while US$102.38 million worth of investments for 38 projects had already garnered approval.

Additionally, the investment process in Sri Lanka has been streamlined while the Investment Relations Unit (IRU) has also been set up to further encourage foreign investors. The country is slowly but surely getting its tourism industry back on track offering diverse experiences and safe accommodation options; these include Kalutara hotels along the south coast such as Mermaid Hotel & Club that offer idyllic beachside holidays.
