Air France, the French national airline recently announced that it had commenced direct flights from Paris to the Velana International Airport (VIA) in Maldives. The announcement was made in the latter part of 2017 as part of a ceremony and ribbon cutting at VIA; the event was attended by Mohamed Saeed, the Maldivian Economic Minister, Welma Blomm the Senior Vice President of Air France and Jean Marin Schuh the French Ambassador to Maldives and Sri Lanka.
This move is expected to the increase the number of visiting French nationals who can choose to stay at one of the many Maldives resorts located on their own private islands such as Anantara Kihavah Maldives Villas. The flights from Paris to Maldives will be aboard Air France’s Boeing 777-200 which features economy, premium economy and business class seating. Flights are scheduled to leave the French capital at 08:50pm and land at VIA the following day at approximately 10:20am.
