Phuket bounces back – More Tourist Arrivals Expected in 2023

Phuket has set its sights on a notable milestone, aiming to attract more than 14 million international and domestic tourists, while anticipating tourism-related revenues to surpass 200 to 300 billion baht by the close of the current year, as disclosed by the Phuket Tourist Association (PTA).

Addressing Phuket’s tourism strategy for the period spanning 2023 to 2024, Rangsiman Kingkaew, Deputy President of the PTA, highlighted that prior to the pandemic in 2019, approximately 700,000 to 800,000 tourists arrived in Phuket monthly. Despite the challenging landscape, a remarkable 80% improvement in tourism has been achieved in comparison to the 2019 figures, with around 500,000 to 600,000 tourists arriving monthly at present. This means that even the best resorts in Phuket see an increase in occupancy this year. Mr Rangsiman asserted that Phuket’s tourism revenues could surpass 200 to 300 billion baht by the conclusion of 2023, attributing this projection to an expected influx of over 14 million tourists bringing in better revenue for hotels like SAii Laguna Phuket as well.
