Phuket Hosts Heroines’ Festival – Celebrating Female Courage

Relatively unknown, Phuket Heroines’ Festival is a culture-centred festival that offers a unique perspective into the island’s history. It is celebrated annually from the 13th to the 15th of March. Those interested in catching all the excitement of next year’s festival and looking for Phuket luxury hotels which to base yourself at can consider Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas. The Heroines’ Festival is held in honour of two unconventionally brave women who helped counter the invasion of Thalang (a city in Phuket) by Burmese troops in 1786. Chan and Mook, the fiery young women, risked their lives and ensured that the troops retreated on the 13th of March. Today, their fearlessness is celebrated with a drama that recounts the events and includes food, dance and hypnotic beats. It is a memorable event that celebrates the strength of women.
