Phuket Immigration has taken mandatory steps to extend visas for tourists who are observing their quarantine period after testing positive for COVID-19. Phuket Immigration Chief Col Thanet Sukchai has made arrangements to have officers visit Phuket resorts the likes of Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites & Villas to carry out the visa extensions for tourists.
The move was promoted as a convenience that takes care of the island’s tourists and gains their trust. Since many tourists were being tested positive for COVID-19 during their second test on Day 5 or Day 6, they were sent for the treatment process either in “hotel quarantine” or “high risk contact” quarantine. Many tourist visas expired during these quarantine periods, making tourists unable to travel to extend the visa by themselves; hence, the visa extension services.
