Phuket Records Increase in Tourists & Revenue in 2022 – Figures Expected to Rise in 2023

Part of the reason Thailand capped off a stellar year of recovery in its tourism industry last year was due to the island of Phuket which continued to draw both domestic and foreign travellers the world over. As highlighted on the Bangkok Post news website on 27th January 2023, Phuket recorded a total of 9.2 million tourists from January to December 2022; during this period, the island generated tourism revenue totalling 233.38 billion baht which provided the Thai economy with an added boost too.

The prospects for this year are even more encouraging. After reaching its arrivals goal of 10 million in 2022, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is targeting to achieve 23 million tourists this year; this includes a rise in visitors to Phuket from 9 million in 2022 to 12 million in 2023. One of the reasons for such an increased projection is the welcome return of visitors from China in January this year for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic. For such travellers heading to Phuket, resorts near the beach continue to be a major draw with properties like Avani+ Mai Khao Phuket Suites offering the island’s best experiences along with safe stays.
