#PhuketOK Used in a Bid to Uplift Tourism – Tapping into the Power of Social Media

As early as February this year, the Thai island of Phuket had come up with a strategy to encourage and combat the negative impact on tourism due to Coronavirus or COVID-19. According to an online article published by The Phuket News, the island had decided to promote itself by way of the “PhuketOK” hashtag (#PhuketOK); this was deemed to have a wide reach since it could be used on various social media platforms such as Instagram, YouTube and Facebook as well as on personal blogs.

This destination is a popular choice amongst tourists and in Phuket, resort accommodation options including those at proprieties like Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas continue to draw travellers the world over. While such promotion efforts will indeed help to highlight the island, it remains to be seen how COVID-19 will further impact tourism moving forward.
