Phuket’s Tourism Revenue on the Rise – Island Also on Time’s “World’s Greatest Places 2023”

Tourism in Thailand is well set on the road to recovery including its popular holiday destination, Phuket; as reported on the Bangkok Post news website on 27th January 2023, the island welcomed 9.2 million tourists last year helping to generate 233.38 billion baht in revenue. This is a positive sign as it looks to reach the pre-pandemic level of 400 billion baht in tourism revenue recorded in 2019. The signs for this year are already good especially since China eased travel restrictions; this has resulted in more Chinese citizens visiting Phuket, which has set its sight on achieving 12 million foreign and Thai arrivals in 2023 which is three million more than the number achieved last year.

The island received an added boost in March this year with Time magazine naming Phuket among its World’s Greatest Places 2023. It was highlighted for its family offerings including the cultural theme park, Carnival Magic. Located within easy reach of properties like Anantara Layan Phuket Resort, this expansive attraction features traditional markets and festivals of the country along with plenty of fun and entertainment. For those based at luxury hotels, Phuket sightseeing can also include visits to the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary where visitors can encounter the nation’s gentle giants.
