Plans to Extend Tokyo Metro Subway Lines – Easing of Congestion Expected

As reported on The Asahi Shimbun news website on 21st September 2021, plans have been put forward to extend two lines of the Tokyo Metro; this is expected to ease congestion in certain areas which in turn will make it easier for tourists to get about the city. The longer, 5 km extension, would link Toyosu Station (Yurakucho Line) with Sumiyoshi Station (Hanzomon Line) and feature two new stations as well; it is expected to cost approximately 156 billion yen.

The shorter extension of about 2.5 km would see Shinagawa Station linked with Shirokane-Takanawa Station (Nanboku Line) and is estimated to cost 80 billion yen; Shinagawa Station which is close to some of the top luxury hotels in Tokyo is near the Haneda Airport making it a convenient transport hub. Properties in the Shibuya district such as Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel offer easy access to this station as well as Shibuya Station which provide tourists with links to key city areas and attractions.
