Plantation Voices: A Contemporary Conversations with Australian South Sea Islanders

A story of resilience. From the sugarcane plantations of Queensland to the joys of freedom, hear and experience the stories of Australia’s South Sea Islanders at the Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery in Brisbane. The event has been continuously on show since the 16th of February 2019 and will end on the 8th of September 2019. It is an event for the whole family that does not require prior booking, entrance tickets or events fees.

On display are articles, photographs and artwork in tandem with the theme. Plantation voices attempt to tell the living history of the people who were made captive and forced into slavery on Queensland’s sugar cane farms 150 years after it occurred.

Tourists visiting Brisbane before the 8th of September can stay in one of the hotel apartments. Brisbane is home to a wide and swanky business district with many hotel options like Oaks Lexicon.
