Locals, as well as tourists who stay at any Phuket resort during the month of Aug, will get to experience the grand Por Tor festival honouring the Chinese traditions. The festival symbolises the opening of hell’s gates and the liberation of the ghosts also known as “hungry ghosts”. There will be offerings to these ghosts in the form of colourful turtle-shaped cakes (which symbolise long life), and it is said that these ghosts (dead family members) will bless the ones who offer these cakes with long life.
Each year, during July or August this festival will be held in Phuket, in almost all the Chinese shrines. This year, the festival will take place on 12th August 2022 and those who stay at properties like Anantara Mai Khao Phuket Villas can easily visit the festival at any of the shrines and witness a day of Chinese festivities all day.
