Poson Poya Day is celebrated in Sri Lanka in the month of June, and this year, festivals were held on June 3rd. It is a public holiday that celebrates the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka by Arahat Mahinda, a disciple of the teachings of the Buddha. The date of the holiday depends on natural occurrences like the appearance of the full moon and is the second most important Poya festival, only behind Vesak.
