Post-Pandemic Tourism Begins in the Maldives

15th July 2020 marked a beginning of a crucial period for the tourism industry in the Maldives as the country’s borders were once more opened up for foreign tourists; this followed months of border closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic that had brought the industry to a virtual standstill. Additionally, along with the border opening in the Maldives, resort properties have also begun to systematically reopen in stages. Travellers will once more have the opportunity to stay at private island resorts the likes of Kurumba Maldives and enjoy coastal getaways.

So far the signs have been encouraging; as reported in an online article published by The Edition in August this year, which was quoting statistics from Maldives Immigration, over 5,100 tourists visited the country between 15th July and 15th August 2020. It would be hoped these numbers would rise as more resorts reopen and travellers begin to gain confidence regarding journeying overseas.
