The whale watching season in Mozambique which began in July will continue through till October and gives travellers a chance to witness the unforgettable sight of Arctic humpback whales. These gentle giants of the ocean can be seen during these months since the waters surrounding Mozambique are part of the migratory route of both humpback and southern right whales.

This annual migration which begins from Antarctica takes the whales to the South East African coast as they go in search of a climate that’s warmer; this environment is not only conducive to their calves but also affords protection from orcas who are their natural predators. Near whale watching hotspots in Mozambique, hotels and resorts can be found which offer excursions out to sea. Among the key areas are the Bazaruto Archipelago, the Quirimbas Archipelago home to Anantara Medjumbe Island Resort and the Vilanculos Region.
